Workshops in Burkina Faso

At the suggestion of Africadoc Burkina, the French Institute invited the Ateliers Varan to hold a documentary workshop during their annual docs festival, the « Sobaté Encounters ». The potential for making documentaries in Burkina Faso is enormous : there’s a real need to describe the reality of the country and its numerous initiatives and cinema traditions at a time when society is undergoing a vast political and social transition. As a result of the call for projects under the title «A Script, a Film » launched by the French Institute and Africadoc, three participants were selected, based on their written proposals.

This workshop was designed in a short format of less than three weeks as a first step in directing that would enable trainees to further develop film projects which were already in preparation. The aim of the workshop was primarily to produce sketches or rough outlines of films to come.
