The workshop
In 2004, a Workshop was organised to bring together on a joint collaboration a group of trainees from very different backgrounds in Marseille.
The programme
In 2004, Jean-Pierre Daniel, the Director of the Alhambra Cinema in Marseille, offered the premises of the Alhambra Cinema to host an Ateliers Varan filmmaking course, with the support of the PACA Region of the South of France (Provence/Alpes/Côte d’Azur). The aim was to get a group of trainees from very different Marseilles backgrounds to meet up to work together: these were students, people from the underprivileged neighbourhoods in the north of the city, together with those from the more middle-class parts of the town centre, plus people of immigrant origin…
A number of great films came out of this, some on really powerful, sensitive subjects.
