The workshop
In 2002, the workshop set up in Venezuela took place when the country was paralyzed by a huge petrol strike and in a divided country under Hugo Chávez.
The programme
A workshop took place at the University of Merida in 2002, as part of the French-Venezuelan Encounters and with the help of the French Embassy services. The CONAC (National Cultural Council) was the main partner of this workshop which trained 12 students at the Cinema Faculty of the Merida University of the Andes, in collaboration with CNAC. Six of the students came from the Merida Cinema School and six others from Caracas, Maracaibo, the Orinoco Delta and even from a small village, Santa María del Vapor.
The training course took place at a time when the country was paralyzed by a huge petrol strike in a terribly divided country under Hugo Chávez. It took place against the background of deep political division in the country.
