The workshop
In 2012-2013, the film directing workshops in Albania concentrated on environmental issues, one of this country’s greatest challenges.
The programme
The idea of a workshop on documentary filmmaking in Albania came from the French Embassy’s Cultural Attaché, Hubert Le Forestier, and was funded by the European Union Delegation. The aim was to train the filmmakers of tomorrow, but also to actually produce some films about environmental problems, one of the country’s greatest challenges. In association with the Film and Multimedia Academy of Marubi, Albania’s first school for training students in the cinema professions, a Varan Workshop lasting 7 weeks was organised for 10 Albanian trainees, all from different social backgrounds. The course was held in combination with a course on film editing for a further 6 trainees.
