Career
French producer and ex- president of the Ateliers Varan
After studying law and criminology, Claude Guisard joined the ORTF in 1962 as a radio and television journalist. He became head of production at ORTF's drama and co-production department, working in particular with Yves Jaigu. He then became head of the Service d'Application de la Recherche aux programmes de télévision, working with Pierre Schaeffer. When the ORTF broke up, he joined the INA, along with the Research Department, as Director of Creation and Research Programmes until 1999.
During these 25 years, more than 1,400 films were produced under his responsibility by 600 directors from the film and television industries, as well as the theatre, photography, visual arts, dance and writing industries. This large production covered all genres: essays, first works, short films, animation, theatre and opera films and the whole range of documentary films, directed by Chantal Akerman, José Berzosa, Pierre Beuchot, Robert Bober, Dominique Cabréra and others, Jean-Louis Comolli, Carmen Castillo, Jean-Noël Cristiani, Jean Eustache, Jean Luc Godard, Dominique Gros, Benoit Jacquot, Robert Kramer, Jeanne Labrune, Gérard Mordillat, Nicolas Philibert, Jérôme Prieur, Rithy Panh, Raul Ruiz, Hugo Santiago, Pierre Zucca...
In 2000, he was awarded the Eurofipa d'Honneur. Since 2000, he has been involved in a number of associations promoting documentary film. He was President of Les Amis du Cinéma du Réel, Périphérie and Les Ateliers Varan from 2010 to 2015, and was a member of the Board of Directors of Les États Généraux de Lussas. He is a member of various creative support committees (CNC, Brouillon d'un rêve de la Scam, Région Rhône Alpes, etc.), lectures at universities, the Ateliers Varan and the Fémis, and sits on numerous documentary film festival juries. He is also a Chevalier des Arts et Lettres and of the Légion d'Honneur.
