Career
French director and sound engineer
Jean-Pierre Duret was introduced to cinema and theater through a decisive meeting with journalist and writer Armand Gatti. This led him to a rich career as sound engineer, collaborating with the Dardenne brothers, Maurice Pialat, Alain Resnais, Nicole Garcia, Jean-Marie Straub and Danièle Huillet, Arnaud des Pallières, Agnès Varda and others. Under writer John Berger’s influence and advice, he pursued a career in documentary filmmaking in 1986 with Un beau jardin par exemple, a film dedicated to his farmer parents. He has since then directed or co-directed multiple documentaries. He has been a member of the Ateliers Varan since 2014.
