Career
French director
After studying Art History and Law , Marianne Khalili-Roméo was entrusted, from 2001 to 2008, with the responsibility of the film policy at the Espace Magnan in Nice. She organized and hosted conferences, round tables, and public debates around the film programs, creating intersections where filmmakers interacted with intellectuals from various fields. Among them: Alain Cavalier, Marco Bellocchio, Michel Piccoli, Pedro Costa, Chantal Akerman, Danièle Huillet and Jean-Marie Straub, Jacques Rancière, Bernard Stiegler... From 2008 to 2018, continuing these thematic programming principles, she founded L’ECLAT. The organization, based within the National School of Art at Villa Arson in Nice, developed ways to program films by creating connections between the arts and contemporary thought. Committed to knowledge transmission, Marianne Khalili Roméo organized her first filmmaking workshop, led by Abbas Kiarostami. Other masterclasses followed, with notable figures such as Wang Bing, Avi Mograbi, Marie Losier, Elia Suleiman, Arnaud Des Pallières, Valérie Mrejen, Abel Ferrara, and Claire Simon. In 2021, as part of the documentary productions by the Ateliers Varan, she directed En suspens (33 min), focusing on everyday justice at the Paris Judicial Court, followed by a second short film, Être juge (31 min), which she both produced and directed.
